The Managing House Committe of Ladies consist of Mrs. Parry, Mrs. Blore, Mrs. Holland, Mrs. Tice, Mrs. Mapleton Chapman Lady Superintendent - Miss Harbard The object of the institution is to provide trained and efficient nurses for case of sickness both in private families and amongst the poor. Candidates of a suitable age and character are selected by the Ladies' House Committee as Probationers, and will undergo a year's professional training in the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. The scale of charges for sending nurses to private families will be on the same basis as in other similar institutions. The committee attach very great importance to the provision for supplying nurses to the poor gratuitously. A district nurs is now provided. It is for this object that annual subscriptions are urgently needed, as gratuitous nursing will involve considerable expense. ------------- 1889 Mrs. Browning - nurse Miss Sarah Browning - Nurse (26 London Road) -------------- February Happenings "The annual meeting in connection with the Canterbury Nurses' Institute was held on the 1st. The report showed that the total receipts for the year 1895 were £2,818 9s. 5d., or deducing the loan on mortgage for the purchase of the house in Burgate, viz., £850, and the cash balance at the beginning of the year, £377 5s., the receipts amounted to £1,591 4s. 5d., and advance of £173 upon the previous year's receipts."
