But the most ostentatious feature of the church is the family monument of the Whitfields, compared with which everything in the church, whether for God's use or man's convenience, sinks into insignificance. It stands in meretricious display in the south aisle with its four punchy cupids or angels and pyramid over which is a huge canopy held up by Corinthian columns.
