1845 Daniel White - carpenter - and wife dies. St Dunstan's headstone reads: 'Sacred to the memory of Daniel White who died July 24th 1845. Aged 75 years. Also of Susannah wife of the above who died November 20th 1845 aged 71 years. Also of Elizabeth Niece of the above who died January 24th 18.. aged 73 years.'


1851 census: - Samuel White - 6 Black Friars North, St Alphage, Canterbury. Kent - collector of poor rates age 49
1851 census: - Tench James White (Professor of Music) and brother Albert White (carpenter) with widowed Mother Ann at 6 Love Lane Cantab (related by marriage)

02/08/1855 Samuel Ethelbert White marries Catherine Veri Vlieland (daughter of language Professor Jerome Nicholas Vlieland) at Plea Norfolk

1861 census: - Samuel White - 5 Dane John, St Alphage, Canterbury. Kent - collector of poor rates age 59

1865 Poll Book: Voter #1645 - Samuel White, 3 Dane John Grove, Canterbury (Parish of St. Mary Northgate - parish of qualification)

1876 Samuel Ethelbert White and family living at 6 Westgate Street Canterbury (according to Kings School admission form for son Ethelbert)

1876 Ethelbert Ernest White (son of Samuel) attends Kings School Canterbury after family return from London (Samuel as a tax collector was often moved) NB: Alfred Duncan son of William Wadham White also attended and at one point was in same form (shown in register as 'White 1 and 2')

12/12/1878 Samuel Ethelbert White initiated as a member of Augustine Lodge No 972 in Canterbury at the age of 50 (presumably at the Lodge Room in High Street).


1881 census: Susannah Harrison White - 3 Dane John Grove age 51 - single - Retired Collectors Daughter - living on own means with neice and nephew b Ireland


1886 Samuel Ethelbert White's will leaves his children Bertha Susannah, Ethelbert Ernest, William Blomfield and Samuel Athelstan in Ryde Street houses in the Parish of Saint Dunstans in the City and Borough of Canterbury. In addition his eldest son Charles Ethelbert is left his Fathers old residence at 6 Blackfriars (then tenanted by William Jennings Esquire) together with his main address at 36 Chesilton Road, Munster Place Fulham. His wife also receives his A shares in the Civil Service Supply Association Ltd and the balance in his Inland Revenue Building Society Account and all the rents and revenues for the rest of her life. Sole executor Charles Ethelbert is in the Navy - in Bombay - and Samuel Ethelbert's wife is appointed as lawful attorney


1891 census: Susannah Harrison White - 3 Dane John Grove age 63 living on own means with niece born Ireland


01/12/1896 William Blomfield White (son of Samuel Ethelbert) Officer S. S. Inyoni, marries Jessie White second daughter of the late James Tench White, of Canterbury

 

Sinclair painting dated and signed March 1881. It possible depicts either 3 Knott brothers (family originally from Nonnington but to be found around Thanington Without/Petham in 1881) or the White family, also Thanington in 1881. They are depicted with horses and cart. In the background is Canterbury and the view is possibly from where the University of Kent now stands.
